Ensure the stability of the WAEMU banking and financial system. Promote the proper functioning and ensure the supervision and security of payment systems in WAEMU. Implement the WAEMU exchange rate policy under the conditions established by the Council of Ministers. Manage the official foreign exchange reserves of WAEMU member states. The Central Bank may carry out, while respecting monetary balance, specific missions or projects which contribute to the improvement of the monetary policy environment, the diversification and the strengthening of the UEMOA financial system. and technical and professional capabilities in the banking and financial sector.

  The Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) is an international public establishment whose headquarters is located in Dakar, Senegal. It is the issuing institute common to the member states of the West African Monetary Union (UMOA). When it was created on May 12, 1962, it brought together the Republics of Ivory Coast, Dahomey, Upper Volta, Mali, Niger, Mauritania, Senegal and the Togolese Republic.
